Glowiak Hilton announces two road improvement projects in Lombard, Glendale Heights

WESTMONT — Building on her support for the bipartisan Rebuild Illinois program, State Senator Suzy Glowiak Hilton announced two resurfacing projects coming to DuPage County, totaling nearly $2.7 million in funding to upgrade roads, improving safety for residents.

“We continue to see the much-needed improvements the historic Rebuild Illinois program delivers, promoting economic development and creating jobs right here in our community,” said Glowiak Hilton (D-Western Springs). “By improving the safety and mobility of our roads, we are investing in the future of our communities, ensuring everyone is able to get where they need to go in a safe, reliable and accessible way.”

Passed in 2019, Rebuild Illinois is investing a total of $33.2 billion over six years into the state’s aging transportation system, creating jobs and promoting economic growth. Rebuild Illinois touches all modes of transportation: roads and bridges, transit, waterways, freight and passenger rail, aviation, and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations. ​ ​ ​

Glowiak Hilton announces park district funding now open

WESTMONT — State Senator Suzy Glowiak Hilton is encouraging park districts and municipalities in the 23rd District to apply for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant.

“Local parks make our communities beautiful while providing space for families and kids to spend time enjoying the outdoors,” said Glowiak Hilton (D-Western Springs). “Illinois has made historic investments in our local park districts to make improvements and upgrades. Let’s continue making our local parks the best they can be for all to use.”

This year, $37.5 million in grant funding is available for qualifying applicants. IDNR will provide funding to cover 90% of eligible projects in underserved communities. Eligible projects can include development or renovation of picnic tables, playgrounds, fishing piers, sports courts/fields, park paths and more.

Communities whose parks have been damaged as a result of severe weather are encouraged to apply as well.

OSLAD is a matching state grant program that offers monetary assistance for the acquisition and/or development of land for public parks and outdoor recreation areas. Since its establishment in 1986, OSLAD has awarded over $675 million for local park projects across the state.

Glowiak Hilton announces over $285,000 for District 23 libraries

State Senator Suzy Glowiak Hilton secured over $285,000 for 17 public libraries and school districts in the 23rd Senate District for library services, enhanced programming and construction and security updates.

“Libraries are the cornerstone of every community, and this funding will ensure they continue to serve everyone,” said Glowiak Hilton (D-Western Springs). “People of all ages can benefit from the educational resources, programming, and the number of other services offered by our libraries, making this funding so crucial.”

More than $27 million was awarded to over 640 public libraries and 2,500 school libraries statewide through the Illinois Secretary of State’s Public Library Per Capita and Equalization Aid Grants, Security and Construction Grants and School Library Grants. The funding will support investments in reading materials, technology, literacy programs, infrastructure improvements and security upgrades. School library grants, awarded once every fiscal year, will support student learning and literacy from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Glowiak Hilton-supported measures prioritize people over profit

WESTMONT — In an effort to protect Illinois drivers and homeowners while addressing affordability, State Senator Suzy Glowiak Hilton supported two measures to crack down on auto and homeowner insurance rates from being excessive or unfair.

“At a time when costs continue to rise, people deserve transparency and accountability,” said Glowiak Hilton (D-Western Springs). “Residents shouldn’t be hit with unpredictable spikes in their home or auto insurance bills.”

House Bill 4273 would prohibit a company selling homeowners insurance from increasing premiums by more than 10% without notifying the consumer 60 days prior. This would give consumers the necessary time to shop around and find a better rate. More importantly, the bill would prohibit premiums for homeowners insurance from being excessive, inadequate or discriminatory. The Illinois Department of Insurance would oversee the measure, with set rules for hearings on newly filed rates.

The legislation would also ban cost shifting, a practice where losses or high-claim payouts in other states are shifted unfairly onto Illinois homeowners. Some residents were blindsided last year by a 27% rate increase, leaving them scrambling to decide how they would take it on.

To ensure Illinoisans have a fair and affordable auto insurance marketplace, Glowiak Hilton supported Senate Bill 714, which would deliver transparency and accountability for premium increases by providing a clear framework, expanding Illinois Department of Insurance’s oversight and broadening options for residents over age 55, ultimately reducing insurance premium costs.

Specifically, the measure would prohibit companies from increasing premiums by more than 10% without notifying the consumer 30 days prior to renewal. It would also prohibit auto insurance premiums from being excessive, inadequate or unfairly discriminatory and create a determination hearing process through the Department of Insurance if rates are found to fall under one of these violations.

“Insurance companies need to be held accountable, ensuring they prioritize customers, not line their own pockets,” said Glowiak Hilton.

House Bill 4273 and Senate Bill 714 passed the General Assembly and await the governor’s signature.
